ABOUT INVISALIGN
WHAT IS INVISALIGN AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Invisalign is the invisible way to straighten teeth without braces. Using advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to project tooth movement, Invisalign creates a series of clear, custom-made aligners that gradually move your teeth. You wear each aligner for about two weeks, moving to the next set, until your teeth are straight.WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INVISALlGN?
Nearly Invisible -You can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing. Removable -You can still eat and drink what you want. Better Oral Hygiene -You can brush and floss normally to maintain healthy gums and teeth. Comfortable -There are no wires, metal or brackets to cause mouth abrasions.DOES INVISALIGN WORK? This is the only way Dr. James Azizzadeh can be sure that the treatment is progressing as planned.DOES A DOCTOR NEED ANY SPECIAL TRAINING TO TREAT WITH INVISALlGN?

Eliminating Gaps or Chips In Your Smile
WHAT IS COMPOSITE BONDING?
The process of composite bonding is the result of many years of dental research and the development of sophisticated dental materials to provide safe, effective, tooth-colored restorations and cosmetic improvements. Bonding involves the application of a resin material to an existing anterior (front) tooth to cover stain, rebuild the shape of a tooth, or change the shape of a tooth for a more pleasing appearance. It may also be used on posterior teeth (molars) for tooth colored fillings. Composite bonding is often used to close gaps in the teeth, provide a more pleasing shape, or to rebuild a chipped tooth. Sometimes old discolored fillings are replaced with composite to provide a lighter, brighter general appearance.Another use of composite technology is laminating, which involves the application of a thin coat of composite material to the teeth. It is often used for cosmetic purposes.
WHAT DOES COMPOSITE BONDING INVOLVE?
Composite bonding involves the application and adherence of a highly-developed, complex resin material to the surface of the tooth. The bonding effect is enhanced by the process of etching. Etching involves increasing the porous nature of the tooth surface before application so that the plastic material will adhere better, providing a stronger bond than would be possible otherwise. After the tooth has been etched, the composite material is applied and the dentist shapes it in the desired fashion. The composite is then cured with the application of heat. Some composite materials are known as self-curing because they do not require heat.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
The time required for bonding depends on the extent of the bonding to be done. Simple repair of a fracture or chip may only take a few minutes; whereas, bonding of the complete front surface of the tooth requires one or two hours. More than one visit to your dentist may be required.WHAT MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED?
Composite bonding requires professional cleaning three to four times a year to remove food stains and maintain the best possible appearance.HOW LONG WILL COMPOSITE BONDING LAST?
The life of your composite bonding is directly related to the level of care received. Composites may last from three to eight years and even longer in certain cases.WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF COMPOSITE BONDING?
A major advantage of composite bonding is that the material is tooth-colored so restorations appear more natural. In addition, the application is painless, requiring no anesthesia. The technique is considered to be tooth-conserving because it requires very little, if any, removal of tooth tissue. And the results are seen immediately.ARE THERE DISADVANTAGES?
Disadvantages of composite bonding are few when compared to the many benefits. However, each dental method has drawbacks and only your dentist can advise you on precisely the best option for you.Composite bonding is usually more expensive than amalgam (silver-colored) restoration. In addition, it may chip or stain more easily if care is not taken. Bonding has a more limited life span than does amalgam; thus, it may have to be replaced more frequently.
Some types of dental problems (such as very large fillings) cannot be effectively filled with composite material.
PROTECT YOUR COMPOSITE BONDING!
If you and your dentist decide that composite bonding is the best option for your dental situation, you can rest assured that you will be proud of the results. You can protect composite bonding through a combination of regular dental checkups at the recommended intervals and your own good care such as brushing and flossing. When flossing, remove the floss horizontally rather than vertically to avoid dislodging composite.
IN ADDITION:
Avoid chewing hard items such as ice and hard candy. Also, avoid chewy, sticky food that may place stress on the composite. If your front teeth have been bonded; avoid biting into foods (especially hard food such as apples) directly. Avoid contacting the bonded area with metal objects such as hair pins. If you suspect that you are grinding your teeth, talk with your dentist about the possibility of wearing a protective device. See your dentist immediately if you suspect that a bonded area has become loosened.Working as partners, you and your dentist can assure the best dental care and the continued long life and beauty of your composite bonding!
